Renews - Nourishes - STRENGTHENS

The Lymphatic System

Unlike the circulation of the blood, the lymphatic system has no pumping mechanism. It relies on muscular movement and breathing to assist the flow of lymph fluid.

The lymphatic system can become very sluggish leading to puffiness, bloating, tiredness, low immunity and frequent infections.

Exercise and diet play an important role as prevention.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an advanced, specialized massage technique which moves the skin over the underlying tissues. It creates a pumping effect which encourages the flow of the lymph fluid and drains excess fluid out of the connective tissue.

MLD renews, nourishes and regenerates the cells. Removes waste products, relaxes the nervous system and revitalizes the immune system.

MLD is used as part of a management programme and treats:

  • Primary Lymphoedema

  • Secondary Lymphoedema

  • Lipoedema

Lymphoedema is a chronic condition which causes a build-up of fluid in the tissues. It can occur in any part of the body causing an aching, heavy feeling which can cause a great deal of discomfort. Lymphoedema can be managed in order to regain mobility and ease discomfort.

This management programme will incorporate advice on skin care,  nutrition, exercise and compression.

The treatment will begin with a consultation followed by Manual Lymphatic Drainage which will often incorporate Oscillation.

Depending on each individual case it is important to receive permission from your consultant and a treatment plan will be tailored for each individual case.
